India. Consonance
21.09.2024 – 19.01.2025
Venue: Museum and Exhibition Center. 29 Sovetskaya St., Ivanovo
Curator: Natalia Starikova
In the Ivanovo was opened a unique exhibition project "India. Consonance". The exhibition was realized with the support of our collectors Ekaterina Terebenina and Andrey Terebenin, whose unusual collection, combining traditional Indian fabrics (XIX-XXI centuries) and works of contemporary art, formed the basis of the exposition. The exhibition also presents the work of our artist Ulyana Podkorytova.
After living in India for 7 years, Ekaterina and Andrey were able to collect a collection built on the subtle feeling of the fabric of Indian existence. That is why there is no dichotomy of the past and the future in it, the objects are not opposed to each other, but flow into each other and enter into a mutual dialogue. Within the framework of this project, this dialogue of generations and cultures has been expanded: the Terebenin’s collection is supplemented with works by contemporary Russian artists, weavers, fabric artists, as well as works from the collection of the Ivanovo chintz Museum. "India. Consonance" is not an abstract philosophy. This is an open question about what meanings and values we fill our everyday life with.
Ekaterina Terebenina and Andrey Terebenin, collectors:
Our Indian collection is our experience of looking into India. Works of art are a concentrated expression of national mentality. You are trying to analyze the flow of information, and the objects of the collection are the "bumps" on which you jump, crossing the boundless ocean of a foreign culture. For us, exhibitions are not only an opportunity to show the collection, they are a working tool for continuing and deepening the study of India.
