New symbolism: Hyperborea and cyberspace
21.09.2024 – 08.12.2024
Venue: Museum of Modern. Krasnoarmeyskaya 15, Samara
Curator: Sergey Balandin, Evgeny Kuzmichev
The Museum of Moderna opened an exhibition "New Symbolism: Hyperborea and Cyberspace", dedicated to symbolist poetics in contemporary art. The exposition includes the works of Vadim Mikhailov "Key with a Keychain" (2023), "Organ Complex 2" (2019) and "Inner Skin" (2019).
Curators, Sergey Balandin and Evgeny Kuzmichev, about the project:
Symbolism was largely a manifestation of artistic utopia, the creation of a world in which social and religious boundaries were erased, and archetypal characters wandered in fantastic landscapes. This world of equality, the omnipotence of good and evil and the immortality of the soul reminds us of modern computer games, which are an integral part of the aesthetics of the "new symbolism". The exhibition includes works by fourteen artists from Samara, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Moscow. They use the experience of symbolism and games in their works, describing a transcendental world full of routes and portals.
