MYTH Gallery at the 3rd Contemporary Art Fair |catalog|

From December 6 to 8, the third edition of the contemporary art fair |catalog| will be held. |catalog| is a new contemporary art fair initiated by the Association of Galleries.

This time MYTH Gallery will present new works by Vadim Mikhailov at booth 2.51.

The artist works with the theme of memory as in many other works. Vadim chooses an ancient kiot (icon case), a Soviet carpet or a rain cape as the basis for his work. All these objects are connected with memories from the artist's childhood.

In addition to the theme of memory, new works bring up the an issue of migration both in a global sense and in a personal one. Vadim says in an interview that he has no sense of home or belonging anywhere. The works "New Year" and "New Year 2" give the impression that the holiday will never take place, even despite the festive name. It is typical for a person to equip and make his home cozy, even if it is temporary, especially during the holidays. Vadim places a Christmas tree decorated with beads and toys on a rain cape, in fact, a portable house. This shows that even traditional symbols of celebration and comfort cannot fill the void left by the absence of a permanent home place.

In other works of the new series, Vadim continues to create his own world in an attempt to escape from reality. Based on ancient kiots, Vadim creates "reliquaries" of another world.  In place of one of the icons, "cosmic regalia" are located, and a new life of the artist's alternative world breaks out from the space of another icon.
