MYTH for the first time at the KIAF Contemporary Art Fair in Seoul!

MYTH Gallery will make its debut at KIAF SEOUL (Korea International Art Fair) with a solo booth by artist Lyudmila Baronina.

At booth A30 we will present textile works from the artist's new series devoted to contemporary myth-making and its distortions. Conceived as a trap for the eye, the booth will greet viewers with visual festivity: fabrics with botanical ornament, ceramics in bloom, motifs drawn from folk lubok prints. But the works' almost applied decorativeness will play the role of a Venus flytrap's lure: familiar ornamental motifs will gradually unfold into stories about the origins of humankind, the body, attachment, and objects that acquire fates of their own.

At the heart of the booth will lie the mixing of registers so characteristic of Baronina: embroidery, appliqué, and ceramic painting will sit alongside easel graphics and object-based sculpture, coming together into a single mythological system built from elements of folk culture, urban legend, and the world of things. Each work will become a scene, a portal into an alternate world, and the booth as a whole will invite viewers to draw closer to its glittering surface, only to discover, unexpectedly, that it will be able to close behind their backs.
